Obituary for Jerry David Purcell

Jerry David Purcell, age 75, of Greenville, IN, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2021. David was born on February 27, 1946 at his home place at 4060 Hwy 64 overlooking Indian Creek in Harrison County to George Maurice and Carrie Grethel Wilkerson Purcell. David was a 1964 graduate of North Central High School in Ramsey, IN and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was formerly employed over the years at General Electric, International Harvester, Cherry-Burrell, Vulcan Hart and a stage hand in Louisville. He also worked at the Miller Kitchen in New Salisbury and Purcell Electric in Corydon.

Dave enjoyed music, photography, reading, fishing and kayaking on Indian Creek and Blue River and watching his favorite basketball team, the Indiana Hoosiers. He was a member of the Corydon Moose Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Carrie Ruth Purcell.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his son, Bob Purcell (Tina) of Depauw; grandson, Brandon Purcell (Ai) of Japan; great-grandsons, William, Winston and Henry Purcell; brothers, George Michael Purcell (Mayetta) of New Salisbury, IN, John Curtis Purcell (June) of Corydon, IN; sister, Virginia Ellen Morris (Robert) of New Salisbury, IN and many nieces and nephews and long time friends.

It was Dave’s wish to be cremated and a celebration of Life is being planned for a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Dave’s name to the WHAS Crusade for Children, Via Ramsey Volunteer Fire Department, P O Box 47, Ramsey, IN 47166

Swarens Funeral Home, Ramsey, IN is handling David’s arrangements.
