Phillip William “Bill” Fox, age 82 passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2020. Phillip was born November 11, 1937 in Hope, Indiana to the late Garlan Austin Miles and Erma Bessie Mary Oppelt Fox. Shortly afterward the family moved to North Vernon, Indiana where Phillip grew up and attended school. He was nicknamed “Bill” as a child and that name stuck with him throughout his life. At age sixteen, Bill quit school and moved to Corydon to live and work with his Uncle Herman Fox, on his farm. Bill eventually moved into Corydon and worked at various jobs to support himself. He worked at the Hill-top Grocery, the Ideal Cafeteria and Donahue’s Bar and Grill before being disabled and retiring. Bill was a fixture in Corydon as he walked downtown almost every day to visit with friends and to make the rounds of his favorite places to visit. Bill loved traveling, especially road trips, he loved coffee and to talk to people about his faith in God. He was a lifelong bachelor and lived alone.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Betty R. Garvey and Wilma J. Jones; brother, Lester O. Fox.

Surviving are brothers, Jacob A. Fox of Graham, Washington and Arthur R. Fox of Cleveland, Tennessee; sisters, Leota M. Corya of Madison, Indiana and Bessie E. Money of Hymera, Indiana.

Bill was a resident of Harrison Health Care Center, Corydon for the last eight years due to blindness and diabetes. He was a very gentle, kind and generous man and will be abundantly missed by all who knew him.

Interment will be at Pennington Chapel Cemetery. A memorial service will be at a future time.
