Obituary for Richard Allen Harmon
Richard A. Harmon, age 77 of Corydon, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Norton’s Brownsboro Hospital, Louisville, KY. Richard was born October 9, 1943 in Depauw, Indiana to the late Lee and Elva Rothrock Harmon.
Richard graduated from North Central High School in 1961 and Purdue University, where he earned degrees in Agriculture. He taught in Madison for 9 years; while working there he got his pilot license, played golf, and was on a bowling team. Then he came back to farming, which he loved. Also he loved sports, Purdue basketball and football games and fishing in Minnesota. Most of all he loved playing cards with family on holidays.
He was a member of Harrison, Crawford and Meade County Cattlemen and Indiana Charolais. He was a lifelong member of Thompson Chapel United Methodist Church and NEA Teacher Organization
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ralph, sister, Betty and brother-in-law, Ralph Best.
Richard is survived by his wife, Wanda Sonner Burden Harmon of Corydon and son, Michael Wayne Harmon, brothers, Robert Harmon (Pat) and Roy Harmon (Denise), sister-in-laws, Sharron Best and Betty Sonner, nieces and nephews, Daniel Harmon (Kate), Stephanie Tostaine (Artie), Sara Hoehn (Marty), Tim Harmon, Leah Harmon, Dr. Tim Best and Jennifer Best. He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral 2 PM Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Swarens Funeral Home, 1405 Hwy 64 NW, Ramsey, IN with burial in Thompson Chapel Cemetery, Depauw, IN.
Visitation 10 AM – 8 PM Friday and after 10 AM Saturday at the funeral home.
