Obituary for Richard Lee Neumann
Milltown, Indiana: Richard Lee Neumann 76, passed away Sunday, son of the late Frank & Alice Neumann, brother of the late Conrad Neumann. His final months were spent as he lived, surrounded by his family. His memory will live on in his wife Janet (Thompson), daughters Jill and Bonnie, sons Frank "Scott" and Richard "Todd", son in laws Curt and Ken, daughter in laws Shannon and Kimberly, grandchildren Tiffany, Jeremy, Kyle, Cory, Megan, Kelsey, Jordan, Nolan, Sophie, Carson, their spouses, Michael, Reyna, Jessica, Michael, Alan, great-grandchildren, Brooklynn, Ethan, Emmalynn, his brother & sister in law John "Jack" & Marlene, and sister Francis. Richard spent his entire life helping his community and was known for his quick wit and leadership qualities. He entered the Army at age 18, served as a drill sergeant, once, getting KP duty for an insubordinate "grin", and after his tour, continued to serve in the Kentucky National Guard. He began his career at the Courier Journal working his way from the maintenance department to eventually the Safety & Security Director of the Bingham Companies. He served as a Special Police Officer for the City of Louisville, volunteered for the Crusade for Children, American Red Cross, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Safe Place, member of the American Newspaper Publishers Association & on countless boards and committees committed to making workplace safety a priority. Richard was honored with a Louisville Bell Award for his service and continued dedication to others. Richard was proud of his accomplishments, but his greatest happiness came from his family. He never missed a family event; he is in every family photo, not just important photos but regular everyday photos too. He showed up, he was the man his children could count on; he was the man anyone could count on and often everyone counted on him. His passing will leave a void in this world; he will be truly missed by all who had the opportunity to meet him. His children, his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren will remember him and in turn carry on his legacy by living as he taught them, honorably, courageously, and fiercely. As an expression of sympathy, we will be receiving donations to provide Christmas gifts for a family in need during this holiday season. You can also email for online donation information. Dad spent his life helping those in need and would certainly appreciate your contribution. A tribute to Richard will be held at Swarens Funeral Home, 1405 Highway 64 NW, Ramsey, Indiana 47166 on Thursday, December 4th, 2014, 10 am-6:30 pm. The funeral service will be conducted at 7 pm. All are invited to come and share your memories, Daddy did love to have everyone up to the farm.
