Obituary for Wilford I. Cave
Wilford “Bill” Cave, 90, entered eternal life on September 12, 2021. Bill was born on July 07, 1931 in Cub Run, KY to the late Ottis and Audrey Highbaugh Cave. He was married to the love of his life, Lorraine Brown Cave, for 59 years, until her passing in 2017. Upon her passing, he moved to assisted living in Henderson, KY.
He was a graduate of Bradley University’s School of Horology. a lifelong member of the Masonic and Scottish Rite fraternal organizations and was a veteran of the US Air Force.
Bill was the president and general manager of Lemon and Sons Jewelry Store in Louisville, Ky. until his retirement in 1992. The most enjoyable tasks he performed at Lemons and Sons was procuring and delivering the Kentucky Derby trophies to Churchill Downs on Derby Day. He would take the trophies down on Derby Day, arrange them in the winner’s circle, and was in the winner’s circle for the ceremonies. After the presentation, he would box the trophies up and take them to Lemons for final engraving. Later he delivered the trophies to the winning owners, trainers, and jockey.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ancil Cave (Betty) of Palmyra. He is survived by four brothers: Ottis L, Cave Jr, (Sara), James Emery Cave (Charlene), Gordon W. Cave (Darlene), and Wendell C, Cave (Julie). He also is survived by a host of nieces and nephews, including Marcia Cave Baer who provided tender loving care since the passing of his wife.
Visitation will be held at 10:30 am with masonic rites and memorial service to follow at 11:30 AM on September 18, 2021 at Unity Chapel Methodist Church, 1760 Lost Creek Road, Ramsey, IN. Interment will follow at Woods Chapel Cemetery.
